Why Corrie?
Moving to Staunton in 2013 was like coming home.
As much as we love our hometown of Norfolk, VA on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay, ever since our first visit to camp at Shenandoah Valley Campground in 2010 (yes, the one with the rabbits & waterfall!) and then stopping downtown at the suggestion of our camp neighbor (whose children were attending a summer camp at the American Shakespeare Center- how cool!), we knew there was nowhere else we'd rather raise our children.
Fast forward 11 years and I could not love this city more. Staunton is no flash in the pan, a place simply to be featured on yet another, "Best Small Town's in America" list. While our Queen City is not without her challenges, she is a thriving example of what a community that genuinely cares for one another looks like.
In the past few years Staunton has proven that we are not afraid to face the complex historical legacies that continue to haunt America. As a dedicated US Government and History teacher, I am committed to continuing a policy of informed decision making that brings us closer to the highest of American ideals:
"WE the People." We're all in this great democratic experiment together, and perhaps nowhere is that fact more important and relevant than here at our local level of government. I pledge I will work hard, listen harder, and always put the citizens of Staunton first.
As the city continues to grow we must ensure that we balance economic development with accessibility and affordability. I'm excited to focus on business and infrastructure development in the West End, the long overdue revitalization of Uniontown, working with our awesome Public Works Department to ensure they have the resources necessary to carry out their vital role in the face of climate change, the creation of more public art projects, and the overall promotion of a greater sense of civic virtue.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions, or to let me know what's on your mind as a Stauntonian. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and serving you well!
Wishing you all the very best,
